Partizan Belgrade had already made a lot of noise in the 2021 transfer season with the blockbuster acquisitions of EuroLeague standouts Kevin Punter and Zach LeDay, after Zeljko Obradovic took over the team. And apparently, there are even more major additions on the way.
“I can say that important and quality signings await us in the next few days or weeks. To complete the team and the ambitions are clear,” Partizan president Ostoja Mijailovic said in an interview to Mozzart Sport.
Partizan is building a quite strong roster with the ultimate goal being to return to EuroLeague for the first time since 2014. The Serbian club can accomplish it by either making the EuroCup Final (under certain conditions) or winning the ABA League.
Mijailovic hopes that not only his own club but also archrival Crvena Zvezda will soon have a secure place in each season’s EuroLeague.
“I really think that Partizan and Crvena Zvezda really deserve to be permanent members of the EuroLeague and I expect them to be in the future,” Mijailovic said. “Based on what our country invests and according to what we gave to European basketball. And [according to] the players we have produced. They deserve wild cards, to be permanent members of the EuroLeague. It’s not good that ABA League doesn’t have a guaranteed place.”
