MoraBanc Andorra confirmed Eurohoops’ report, announcing the addition of Gal Mekel to the roster for the upcoming season.

Per MoraBanc Andorra:

MoraBanc Andorra has closed the incorporation until the end of the season of the 33-year-old Israeli base Gal Mekel, who already has ACB experience having played for Gran Canaria and Unicaja Malaga.

Aside from these two ACB clubs, Mekel credits a long career that even took him to the NBA, playing with the Dallas Mavericks and the New Orleans Pelicans.

The new tricolor player is an old-school point guard with the ability to lead the team and set the tempo of the match. Mekel, who was the second Israeli player to play in the NBA, gained notoriety in his years at Tel Aviv’s Maccabi. The new tricolor base will join the team this week if it passes the medical check-up.

“We wanted a player who would give us knowledge of the game and Mekel is a safe bet,” said GM Francesc Solana, who added that “he is a player who knows the league and the Eurocup and this factor has also helped us to think that he is the ‘man we need right now’.
