Former NBA player, Sindarius Thornwell has penned a deal to join ratiopharm Ulm, the team announced Thursday.
Thornwell, 26, will display his talents overseas for the first time. Since completing his NCAA run at South Carolina, he was picked with the 48th overall pick of the 2017 NBA draft and competed in 164 NBA games between the Orlando Magic, New Orleans Pelicans, and Los Angeles Clippers.
Christoph Philipps set to be sidelined for several months after shoulder surgery, prompted the search for an additional player on the roster of head coach Jaka Lakovic. A solid two-way player carrying NBA experience fits the bill.
The American guard last played for the Magic on a two-way contract. He averaged 3.4 points, 2.4 assists, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per contest over seven appearances late in the 2020-21 NBA Regular Season. His 2020-21 stint at the Pelicans produced 1.2 points per match through 14 appearances.
Back in his rookie season as a member of the Clippers, he registered 73 games played, including 15 starts, for 3.9 points per game. He went on with decreased playing time but still notched 68 more games under his belt in 2018-19 before landing in New Orleans in 2020.
The German club, coming off Wednesday’s overtime win against Cedevita Olimpija on the road, is currently 2-2 in the 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season, tied for third place in Group B. At the domestic level, a 4-3 start paints the picture so far in the easyCredit BBL.
