Valencia reportedly accelerating Joan Penarroya’s extension due to Baskonia’s interest

Despite injuries and COVID struggles, Valencia has been having a solid season both in the Spanish Liga Endesa and 7DAYS EuroCup with Joan Penarroya at the helm, though his contract with the team expires this summer and several teams have the 52-year-old playcaller on their radar.

According to reports by Las Provincias, Baskonia is one of the teams that has set its sights on Penarroya and could attempt to lure him in next summer if he remains available. The Spanish club has been struggling this season, even after Neven Spahija replaced Dusko Ivanovic on the bench last November.

Valencia, which has qualified for Copa Del Rey and is currently placed fourth in Spain and second in EuroCup Group B, has decided to take action and offer Penarroya a contract extension before June, per Cadena SER, with hopes to keep him on board next season.

Penarroya signed a deal with Valencia this past offseason, coming from a two-year stint with Hereda San Pablo Burgos with which he lifted back-to-back Basketball Champions League titles.
