Not only did Reyer Venezia become just the third team to beat Gran Canaria this EuroCup season but also did it in a dominant fashion. The Italian side got a 77 – 55 win in a postponed game for Round 9 to improve to 7 – 5 and jump to fourth place in the Group B standings.
Despite the loss, Gran Canaria remains first in the Group with a 9 – 3 record.
Five players scored in double figures for Venezia. Victor Sanders had 13 points, Mike Bramos, Mitchell Watt and Andrea De Nicolao dropped 11 points apiece while Michele Vitali finished with 10 points.
Venezia entered the game quite aggressively to establish a double-digit lead in the second period. Five minutes into the second half, the hosts went up 52 – 29 and proceeded to retain an advantage around 20 for the rest of the match.
Artem Pustovyii (13 points, eight rebounds) and John Shurna (12 points, 10 rebounds) stood out from Gran Canaria.
In another postponed game for Round 9, Morabanc Andorra destroyed Slask Wroclaw 99 – 65 behind 20 points by Clevin Hannah. Andorra is now 7 – 5 while Slask went to 2 – 10.
