David Eudal resigned ending a brief stint and Oscar Quintana was named the new head coach of MoraBanc Andorra, the team announced Monday.
Quintana, 55, became the third play-caller of the Andorran team in 2021-22. The former boss of Fuenlabrada, Zaragoza, Seville, Manresa, Alicante, and UCAM Murcia will debut in the home game opposite Buducnost VOLI, to be held tomorrow, Tuesday (20:45 CET). It is a win-or-go-home contest with Gran Canaria or Slask Wroclaw awaiting the winner in the Quarterfinals.
Eudal, 45, an assistant from 2014, was promoted a few months ago following the dismissal of Ibon Navarro. His run as the head coach lasting 21 games generated a total of eight wins across all competitions.
On a five-game losing streak in the ACB, Andorra dropped all the way down to last place in the Spanish League table. The 8-21 W-L tally sits one game inside the two relegation spots of the standings with five fixtures left on the regular-season schedule. Taking into consideration EuroCup and the demanding situation at the domestic level, the team based in Andorra la Vella finds itself ahead of must-win situations down the stretch of the 2021-22 campaign.
After being limited to lower divisions for 19 years, the Andorran outfit returned to the ACB in 2014. Three years later, in 2017 it made the Playoffs for the first time in 22 years and has since enjoyed respectable rankings in the strongest domestic league of Europe and reached the Copa del Rey semifinals in 2020.
