Ferran Bassas has inked a two-year contract to join Gran Canaria, the team announced Wednesday. Joventut previously confirmed his departure.
Bassas, 30, was a product of the Joventut youth divisions and turned pro with affiliate Prat in 2010. After six years in the lower divisions of Spain’s basketball pyramid, his solid showings earned a promotion to top-flight ACB as he joined Lenovo Tenerife in 2016 and moved to Hereda San Pablo Burgos in 2019 before spending the last two seasons as a player of the team located in Badalona.
After splitting 72 games played in the Basketball Champions League between Tenerife and Burgos and being crowned BCL champion in 2017 with the San Cristobal de La Laguna outfit, he made his way to 25 games of the 7DAYS EuroCup producing 8.5 points, 5.4 assists, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.7 steals per contest. In 2021-22, he added 7.1 points, 2.4 assists, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.7 steals per game in Spain’s Liga Endesa.
Bassas, capped for the first time with the Spain national team during the Jovenut stint, became the first official addition to the roster of the new head coach Jaka Lakovic. The team located in Las Palmas will get another shot for an extended run in EuroCup after making it all the way to the Quarterfinals of the 2021-22 edition of the second-tier tournament of Euroleague Basketball. In the Spanish league, it slipped into the ACB Playoffs as the eighth seed and was swept by FC Barcelona in the best-of-three series of the Quarterfinals.
