The London Lions picked up Miye Oni, the team announced Wednesday evening confirming the earlier report of Marc Stein,

Oni, 25, completed his first jump to Europe and the 7DAYS EuroCup with the British team. He became the third former NBA player to join the Lions this season after Sam Dekker and Kosta Koufos.

In connection with the signing, the London outfit released Devon van Oostrum.

Per the press release: “The London Lions are happy to announce the signing of British-Nigerian shooting guard Miye Oni [Pronunciation: \me-A owe-knee]. The 2018-2019 Ivy League Player of the Year (Yale University) arrives in the U.K.’s capital following a 3-year stint in the NBA with the Utah Jazz.

Selected with the 58th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Oni participated in 80 regular season games and logged 10 playoff appearances during his time with the Jazz. The 6’5” Yale alum had a storied career as a Yale Bulldog, leaving the school 10th all-time in scoring and 4th all-time in three-point makes. Miye Oni was also a two-time All-Ivy League first-team member in 2018 and 2019.

Oni will replace guard Devon van Oostrum, who played 11 games for the Lions this season.”

“We’d like to thank Devon for his time spent with the club. A true professional, both on and off the court. Devon made the program better, and we wish him nothing but success going forward,” GM Brett Burman commented on the departing player.

The Nigerian player has averaged 1.8 points and 1.4 rebounds in his 80-game NBA career so far, and he spent only 2.8 minutes per game on the court in his last experience with the Utah Jazz.

Miye Oni, who represented Nigeria in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, will try to help the British team bounce back in the EuroCup. They are currently 8th in the Group B standings with a 1-3 record.
