NBA prospect Ismael Kamagate was named 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season Round 6 MVP, Euroleague Basketball announced Thursday.
Kamagate, 21, posted a 12-point, 19-rebound double-double as Paris edged Veolia Towers Hamburg Wednesday night. Producing a PIR of 41 got him the MVP nod.
The youngster’s NBA rights belong to the Denver Nuggets. Profiled by Eurohoops as the goalkeeper of Paris, he recently discussed his summer plans, including the goal of playing alongside Serbian superstar Nikola Jokic.
Per the press release: “A monster double-double in a winning effort allowed Ismael Kamagate of Paris Basketball to earn EuroCup MVP of the Round honors for the first time in his short, promising career.
Kamagate led Paris to an 87-84 home victory against Veolia Towers Hamburg with 12 points, 19 rebounds, 4 blocks, 7 fouls drawn, an assist and a steal for a performance index rating of 41. Kamagate’s was the second-best PIR in the EuroCup this season, following his teammate Kyle Allman’s 42 in a losing Round 4 effort against Gran Canaria. Kamagate’s 19 rebounds are tied for the third-highest toal in competition history and most in a EuroCup game in almost eight years. The last player to get so many rebounds was Ondrej Balvin of Baloncesto Sevilla against CEZ Basketball Nymburk on December 16, 2014.
Following next in Round 6’s top performances was Yago Dos Santos of ratiopharm, who had a PIR of 39 in his team’s 105-106 home win against Prometey Slobozhanske. Dos Santos had 26 points, 10 assists and 8 fouls drawn. In that same game, Gian Clavell of Prometey amassed a PIR of 36, getting 34 points on 4-for-6 two-point, 7-for-10 three-point and 5-for-6 free-throw shoting. He added 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 fouls drawn. Joe Young of Promitheas Patras, with a PIR of 34, followed by four players with PIRs of 29 – Onuralp Bitim of Furutti Extra Bursaspor, Karim Jallow of Ulm, Gyorgy Golovan of 7-Bet Lietkabelis Panavezys and Jeremiah Martin of Slask Wroclaw – completed the top individual performances in Round 6.
Individual highs: Gian Clavell, Prometey, 34 points
Regular Season Round 6 was full of outstanding individual performances. Here are its leaders in all main statistical categories.
Gian Clavell of Prometey Slobozhanske led all scorers with 34 points in a losing effort against ratiopharm Ulm. He matched this season’s best scoring mark: Joe Young of Promitheas also had 34 points in Round 2 against Gran Canaria. Young is the competition’s top scorer at 24.5 points per game.
Ismael Kamagate led all rebounder by pulling down 19 in his team’s home win against Veolia Hamburg Towers. It is the best rebounding mark in the competition since Ondrej Balvin of Baloncesto Sevilla also had 19 boards against CEZ Basketball Nymburk on December 16, 2014. Alpha Kaba of Buducnost VOLI Podgorica leads the rebounds table at 11.3 per night.
Yago Dos Santos of Ulm was the only player to record double digits in assists, getting 10 against Prometey. J’Covan Brown, who didn’t play in Round 6, is first overall in assists at 6.8 per night. Three players – Jeremiah Martin of Slask Wroclaw, David Dudzinski of Frutti Extra Bursaspor and Nicola Akele of Germani Brescia – each collected 4 steals in Round 6. Martin is this season’s steals leader at 3.0 per game. Kamagate had 4 blocks to lead this round’s standings, and is also first overall (2.5 bpg.). Dos Santos, Kamagate, Kaba and Tyrique Jones of Turk Telekom Ankara each recorded a double-double in Round 6.”
Highlighting the Top 10 Plays of Round 6, Karel Guzman bounced way high for a tremendous dunk. However, his 16-point effort, including the best play of the week, was not enough for U-BT Cluj-Napoca against Frutti Extra Bursaspor Wednesday.
