Gran Canaria once again confirmed their status as the team to beat this season in EuroCup by crushing Buducnost 97 – 70 at home. The reigning champions moved to 9 – 0 and remain the only undefeated team in the competition at the end of the first leg of the Group Stage.
Sylven Landesberg led Gran Canaria with 18 points, while Andrew Albicy had 11 points and Nicolas Brussino delivered 10 points plus five assists. Their team erupted in the third period after a balanced first half (49 – 44) to move up 75 – 54 with 10 minutes to play and never looked back.
Marvin Jones was the only Buducnost player in double figures with 22 points. The Montenegrin side will get a boost from new guard Yogi Ferrell to improve its position in the second leg.
In Badalona, Joventut downed Prometey 79 – 76 after a comeback from down 15 points and with a youngster having a key role in the win.
Not only did 17-year-old forward Michael Ruzic score nine points but hit the go-ahead free throws for Badalona with 1:21 to play. These points were part of a 5 – 0 run with which the Catalan side finished the game to get its first victory after three straight defeats.
Andrew Andrews scored 15 points for Badalona. Issuf Sanon and Ronald March dropped 15 points apiece for Prometey.
