Angel Delgado leads Besiktas, Hapoel Tel Aviv nears Playoff berth

Round 13 of the BKT EuroCup Regular Season featured Besiktas Emlakjet, Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv, and Prometey picking up wins in Group A.

Highlighting Wednesday’s results by moving up to 8-5, the team based in Istanbul went into a commanding position before settling for a 72-59 victory versus the Wolves in BJK Akatlar Arena.

Leading the team coached by Dusan Alimpijevic, Dominican Angel Delgado posted a 16-point, 14-rebound double-double alongside six assists. San Diego State product Matt Mitchell followed with 15 points. Tre’Shawn Thurman netted a team-high 15 points for the visitors in the one-sided affair. Following seven consecutive outings with a double-digit performance index rating, Christian Mekowulu was held one point over 11 minutes and a PIR of -2.

A high-scoring contest powered Hapoel Tel Aviv to an 11th straight win across all competitions. Pulling away in the fourth quarter, the Israeli club defeated Veolia Towers Hamburg, 118-101, in Aleksandar Nikolic Hall. Among seven double-digit scoring efforts, Bar Timor dropped a season-high 21 points. On the losing end, Aleksander Dziewa registered a game-high 23 points.

Prometey edged out winless and shorthanded Cedevita Olimpija, 105-100. Tai Odiase and Gian Clavell shared a team-high 17 points and Caleb Agada ended up with ten points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. In his tenth straight double-digit scoring showing in the EuroCup, Jaka Blazic recorded a game-high 26 points in a losing effort at Arena Riga.

U-BT Cluj-Napoca storms back in Podgorica

In Group B, U-BT Cluj-Napoca dug its way out of a 15-point hole en route to 9-4. Both Aris Midea and Dolomiti Energia Trento jumped to 6-7.

The Romania champions trailed by 15 points in the second quarter and by 11 points at the end of the third quarter before taking over the last ten minutes and prevailing, 79-77, against Buducnost VOLI in Moraca Sports Center. Experienced bigs Patrick Richard and Andrija Stipanovic shared a game-high 16 points. Bryce Jones chipped in 13 points.

Tallying over 15 points in a sixth consecutive EuroCup showing, Vassilis Toliopoulos set the pace for the blowout win, 93-71, against Slask Wroclaw in Thessaloniki. The Greek guard ended up with 18 points alongside six rebounds, five assists, and one steal. Latvian import Roberts Blumbergs added 17 points with five triples in a team total of 17/33.

In the last EuroCup game of 2023, Trento marched past 7bet-Lietkabelis, 76-70. Latvian forward Andrejs Grazulis put in 18 points plus seven rebounds and three assists. Packing over 11 points in a seven straight continental outing, Deividas Sirvydis with a game-high 21 points was not enough for the visitors in Il T Quotidiano Arena.
