Amar Gegic emerged as an addition to Dreamland Gran Canaria.
On Wednesday evening, the Canary Islands outfit announced that the Bosnian combo guard inked a contract for the rest of the 2023-24 season.
Begic, 25, is set up for a fourth campaign in the BKT EuroCup. He was featured in 33 games of EuroLeague Basketball’s second-tier appearance between Paris last season, Partizan NIS in 2018-19, and FC Bayern Munich in 2017-18. Starting the 2023-24 campaign with Metropolitans 92, he tallied 12.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per contest in France’s Betclic Elite.
Representing Bosnia-Herzegovina, he played in the 2022 FIBA EuroBasket, besides numerous occasions in Qualifiers for various editions of the World Cup and EuroBasket over the last six years. Most recently, the German-born guard averaged 3.8 points per game in the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Poland. Previous international experience stretched across the U18 and U16 national teams.
Seeking back-to-back EuroCup championships, his new side is on the verge of clinching a berth in the Playoffs. A 10-3 record ranks second in Group B of the Regular Season, trailing JL Bourg by one game and enjoying a one-game advantage over third-placed U-BT Cluj-Napoca. The top two teams at the end of the 18-game double-legged round-robin schedule will advance directly to the Quarterfinals.
At the domestic level, the team coached by Slovenian Jaka Lakovic is tied for fifth in the standings of Spain’s Liga Endesa behind a 9-6 W-L tally.
