In August, the former Ukrainian referee Mykola Ambrosov accused his countryman Boris Ryzhyk of manipulating the EuroCup Final between AS Monaco and UNICS Kazan.

After undergoing an internal investigation regarding a bribing attempt on one of the crew members officiating during Game 2 of the 2020-21 EuroCup Final, the case has now been announced as dismissed. Per the official EuroLeague Basketball’s press release:

“As announced on August 3, 2023, Euroleague Basketball conducted an internal investigation through an independent investigator, in light of the alleged intent to bribe one of the crew members officiating Game 2 of the 2021 EuroCup Finals, as publicly stated by one of these, Mr. Mykola Ambrosov.

As a result of the investigation, and based on the evidence that was gathered and analyzed, it is ruled that there is no clear evidence that allows to establish an attempt of bribing, which therefore renders the case inconclusive against the related individuals, and has been therefore dismissed.

Euroleague Basketball remains committed to protecting the integrity of its competitions, applying the strictest monitoring protocols to detect any possible acts that may threaten the fair play principles that sit at the core of its values”.

On that occasion, AS Monaco won on the road 86-83 against UNICS Kazan after winning in Game 1 to capture its first-ever title, winning the EuroCup and heading to the EuroLeague, where they’re now established as one of the best high-level contenders. Rob Gray was the MVP with 25 points.
