Living in Gran Canaria since 2020, it looks like Andrew Albicy won’t be moving anywhere else for a couple of years more: the 34-year-old point guard has extended his contract with the club until 2026.
In his fourth year with the team, he has been averaging 6.5 points and 4.8 assists in the BKT EuroCup, while he put up 6.1 points and 4.0 assists per game in the ACB.
Under Jaka Lakovic in Gran Canaria, he won the 2022-23 EuroCup, earning the rights to play in the EuroLeague. However, the club decided to stay in the second-tier European competition for financial reasons.
A veteran international dreaming of the Olympics at home
Before moving to the black-and-yellow Canarian side, he spent the first 10 years of his career domestically between Paris-Levallois and Gravelines. In 2016 he moved to MoraBanc Andorra, while in 2019-20 he spent the season with Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Heading to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Vincent Collet has included him in the 19-man preliminary extended roster for the French national team. It’s still unclear if he will represent his country this summer at home.
With France, he has won several medals Internationally: one gold at the 2010 U20 European Championship, two silver medals (2011 and 2022) at EuroBasket, one bronze medal at the 2019 FIBA World Cup, and the silver medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
