After suffering a long-term knee injury that ruled him out for almost two years, Carlos Alocen eventually left Real Madrid, with whom he signed a contract extension until 2025.
The 23-year-old Spanish point guard will now play for the first time in the BKT EuroCup, joining Gran Canaria for the next two seasons, until 2026.
Between ACB and EuroLeague, he played in 30 games last season following his return from injury. He had 3.1 points and 1.8 assists per game in Spain, while only putting up 1.5 points and 1.4 assists in over 8:48 minutes per game on the court in the EuroLeague.
He will share playmaking duties with Andrew Albicy, who recently renewed his stay with Jaka Lakovic’s team until 2026. AJ Slaughter, instead, left Gran Canaria to join Casademont Zaragoza, where Carlos Alocen played in the youth system, debuting professionally with the team and staying until 2020.
With the Spanish side, he was named Best Young Player for the 2019-20 Basketball Champions League by averaging 7.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game at 19 years of age. With Real Madrid, he won 4 Spanish Supercups from 2020 to 2023, the 2022 ACB, the 2024 Copa del Rey, and the 2023 EuroLeague.
