The Finnish shooting guard won’t play for a Spanish team for the first time since 2015

After five years alongside a well-oiled Tenerife team, where he won the 2022 Basketball Champions League, Sasu Salin will make a comeback to the BKT EuroCup, signing with Romanian champions of U-BT Cluj-Napoca.

For the first time since 2015, he won’t be playing Spanish basketball. He has had experiences with Gran Canaria (2015-17), Unicaja Malaga (2017-19), and Tenerife (2019-24) in the ACB, while also playing in the EuroCup and cementing his legacy in the Basketball Champions League.

He recently played internationally with the Finnish national team at the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Valencia, losing to Spain in the Semi-Finals. The 33-year-old guard put up 5.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.

Prior to that, he represented Finland at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. With his country, he also played at FIBA EuroBasket 2022, reaching the Quarter-Finals but losing once again to then-champions Spain.

Sasu Salin is the latest of several new additions made by U-BT Cluj-Napoca, including former NBA guard Zavier Simpson, power forward Kevin Hervey, and center Zach Hankins.
