Playing on the road in Thessaloniki and contributing with 15 points to an away victory in the BKT EuroCup should make everybody in Turk Telekom Ankara feel great, but Vasilis Charalampopoulos can’t enjoy to the fullest its team’s first win of the International campaign.

Right after the game against Aris, the Turkish team announced that the Greek forward would be forced to miss the entire length of the 2024-25 season due to a severe knee injury. His return to the court is planned within 7-8 months, which makes it difficult for him to recover in time.

“Our player Vassilis Charalampopoulos was injured in last night’s EuroCup match. In the examination performed after the match, an ACL tear was diagnosed. Our player’s surgical operation will be performed in the coming days. Vassilis’ return to the court is planned within 7-8 months. We wish him well and believe that he will return to the court stronger”, the team’s press release said.

It all happened shortly after the beginning of the fourth quarter. Charalampopoulos caught a long pass from one of his teammates, jumping too high to receive it and landing roughly on his left leg; he immediately fell to the floor, clutching his knee. In the previous play, he scored a three-pointer.

The Greek forward then left the court with support coming from the whole arena. Later on, he came back to the court with ice on his knee; obviously, he wasn’t able to compete. Following the game, more updated exams on his left knee were done, and the sad result came out.
