Being announced the newest head coach of Hapoel Tel Aviv, with Stefanos Dedas stepping down and becoming assistant coach of the team, Dimitris Itoudis spoke about the decision to return to the bench with the Israeli powerhouse, currently participating in the BKT EuroCup.
“[Hapoel Tel Aviv] matches my ambitions and we can build something great. It’s a process that takes time but it’s very interesting and you’re trying to build something from scratch. The team has established a status in Europe to achieve things”, the former CSKA Moscow and Fenerbahce head coach stated.
“Ever since I had the honor to meet Ofer Yannay and he explained things to me about life, he made me realize about things. Let me say that basketball in Europe is a sleeping giant in many areas. Basketball is the most exciting sport. People and fans think things happen in seconds. We did not stop talking with Ofer [Yannay] about basketball in Europe, in Israel, and abroad. We put a lot on the table”, he added.
Later on, he spoke about Stefanos Dedas’ decision. “He did a very good job here. He decided to stay here and basketball is all about cooperation. Everyone has to make decisions at the end of the day. Stefanos [Dedas] and his colleagues gave their best”, Itoudis commented.
