Badalona triumphant over Besiktas to continue playoff push

By Eurohoops team / info@eurohoops.net

Joventut Badalona put on arguably their top performance in the 2024-25 EuroCup season so far to rout Besiktas 93 – 70 at home. It was a very important win for the Catalonia side that improved to 5-9 to stay in pursuit of the playoffs.

Besiktas suffered its third straight loss to drop 7 – 7.

Kassius Robertson led a balanced Badalona offense with 17 points. Devon Dotson added 16 points, Artem Pustovyii posted 12 points plus five rebounds and Adam Hanga had 11 points. Ante Tomic completed the game with a EuroCup career-high eight assists in just 18:32 to go with his six rebounds and five points.

Jonah Matthews (18 points, five rebounds) was the only Besiktas player in double figures. The Turkish side, that was coming off a big domestic win over Anadolu Efes, fell behind 22 – 11 in the first period and never managed to keep up with the hosts that completely imposed their rhythm.

Wednesday’s (8/1) EuroCup games began with Bahcesehir surviving Buducnost 95 – 93 in overtime. Djordijc Jovanovic sent the game to the extra period with a long range shot that would’ve been the game-winner if he didn’t step just a bit on the 3-point line.

In overtime, Tyler Cavanaugh put Bahcesehir up 94 – 91 with six seconds remaining. Yogi Ferrell went for the layup instead for a shot to tie the game and on the other end, Sehmus Hazer made a free throw to seal the final result.

Axel Bouteille had 23 points and nine rebounds for Bahcesehir while Jaleen Smith notched 19 points and nine assists. Ferrell scored 15 and dished out five assists for Buducnost.

Previously winless Trefl Sopot pulled off a major upset by beating Wolves Vilnius 97 – 74 on the road thanks mostly to the efforts of Jaroslaw Zyskowski (20 points, nine rebounds) and Darious Moten (19 points, five rebounds).

Anthony Cowan Jr. stood out from the Wolves with 17 points and eight assists.

The duo of Khadeen Carrington (23 points) and Jared Harper (21 points, seven assists, six rebounds) worked their magic as Hapoel Jerusalem escaped Cluj Napoca 91 – 79.

Dennis Seeley’s 27 points weren’t enough for Cluj.
