Ziga Samar is heading to Dreamland Gran Canaria on a loan assignment from ALBA Berlin.
Insider Chema de Lucas reported the deal and both involved teams made it official later Sunday.
The 23-year-old Slovenian point guard logged 14 appearances in the 2024-25 edition of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, including one start for the team coached by Israel Gonzalez. He tallied 4.1 points, 2.9 assists, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks per contest.
A veteran of 28 appearances in the premier club continental competition of Europe with the Albatrosse, Samar is en route to bouncing back in the BKT EuroCup after 19 appearances in the 2022-23 installment of the second tier of Euroleague Basketball with Veolia Towers Hamburg.
In addition to meeting the team guided by Jaka Lakovic at 10-6 in Group A of the EuroCup Regular Season, amid a battle for a direct ticket to the Quarterfinals instead of settling for a spot in the Eighthfinals through the last two fixtures, he is also set for action in Spain’s Liga Endesa. A youth product of Real Madrid, his professional career features 64 ACB games with Urbas Fuenlabrada over the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns. Gran Canaria is currently tied for sixth in the 2024-25 Regular Season, behind a 10-8 record.
Beyond the club level, the native of Jesenice representing Slovenia went from a successful sprint at the youth level to the senior national team with participation in the 2023 FIBA World Cup and 2022 EuroBasket.
