Following a loss to Hapoel Beer Sheva in the Israeli Championship, Hapoel Tel Aviv announced the suspension of star player Patrick Beverley.
“Player Patrick Beverley has been suspended by the team until further notice,” Hapoel announced after the game, during which the American guard did not play in the second half.
In his postgame comments, coach Dimitris Itoudis addressed the decision not to play Beverley in the third and fourth quarters.
“Because I’m the coach. I apologize for the loss, but it happens. It was my decision, and that’s it. I don’t have to give you an explanation,” Itoudis said.
After arriving from the NBA, the 36-year-old point guard has averaged 10.7 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in 14 BKT EuroCup appearances.
