After facing a defeat last week at home, Bilbao returned to victories in Eurocup by narrowly edging Lietuvos Rytas 80 – 76.
While veteran Alex Mumbru (19 points) was the “go to guy” for the Basques throughout the whole game, in the end it was a life-saving defense of Michael Eric on Drew Gordon that saved the day. With six seconds to go an dthe score 77 – 76, the power forward of Rytas had a chance to tie the match, but Eric blocked his effort, sealing his team’s win.
Gordon (16 points/10 rebounds) was among the top performers of the Lithuanians along with David Logan (19 points, 6 assists). Apart from Mumbru, Scott Bamfort was also more than solid for Bilbao, with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
