Speaking to “Walla” Demirel clarified that his team didn’t ask for any buy out for Maccabi Tel Aviv and it was all about Blatt and his wishes.
“Everything that happened has nothing to do with us,” Demirel explained. “I do not know what was published, but we did not even talk about buy out. David has a contract with us for the next season, but he came over to us a few weeks ago and asked for permission to talk to Maccabi. We know that he wants to coach in the Euroleague, we will play next season in the Eurocup, and we understood that it would be right for us to let him talk. Last week he turned to me and said that he finally decided to stay in. I did not ask him too many questions, I was just happy because he did great things here in his first season and I am happy that there will be continuity”.
So that means that Blatt will be part of the Eurocup next season? Demirel’s answer was simple: “In the first place, Blatt asked us to speak specifically with Maccabi Tel Aviv, and as far as I know, he stayed with us.”
