Bayern Munich once again confirmed its status as one of the major contenders for this season’s EuroCup title by crushing Hapoel Jerusalem 111 – 85 at home.
The Bavarians were merciless on offense, playing high-paced basketball led by Danilo Barthel (21 points) Jarred Cunningham (19 points, 5 rebounds) and Maik Zirbes (18 points).
Hapoel was truly competitive only in the third quarter which it won 30 – 29. It wasn’t of great use however since they were already trailing 53 – 38 at halftime and then in the fourth crumbled, while head coach Mody Maor got ejected with the score 97 – 73 and 4 minutes remaining.
Stratos Perperoglou and Tarence Kinsey dropped 19 points apiece for the Israelis.
In Italy, Lietkabelis took a potentially decisive 85 – 82 overtime victory over Reggio Emilia in its first game after coachArtus Stalbergs’ departure from the team.
Veteran Ksistof Lavrinovic had 18 points and Zanis Peiners 17 along with 6 assists for the winning squad while EuroCup top performer and scorer Amedeo Della Valle finished with 20 points plus 4 assists for Reggiana.
Yesterday, Galatasaray prevailed over Buducnost at home.
