With Zenit St. Petersburg getting the easy win over Ulm yesterday the Germans were eliminated from Top16.
On the contrary, ASVEL Villeurbanne got the close 84-74 win over Tofas Bursa and with a 6-3 record sealed their ticket for the next round.
It was not easy, however, the hosts got a 70-63 lead with six minutes left and Tofas couldn’t get closer than four points after that with John Robinson making five straight points (81-70) that decided the final outcome. David Lighty with 15 points was the top scorer of the winners and Robinson added 14. Tony Crocker scored 17 points for Tofas.
And in the last game of the night, Trento beat Gran Canaria 79-76 and both teams qualified to the next round, leaving Tofas Bursa out. Gran Canaria which had already five wins would be in danger of missing the Top 16 only if they were beaten by more than 25 points and Trento needed just to win in order to qualify. Still, the game was a fight until the end with Jorge Gutierrez leading the charge for the Italians with 18 points and also four steals. Anzejs Pasecniks was the top scorer of “GranCa” with 12 points.
