With the guests leading by one (74-73) after a big shot by Jared Cunningham, Kidd made the final 76-74 and saved the day for coach David Blatt’s team.
It was a thrilling contest, decided in the last seconds with Scottie Wilbekin scoring 24 points in total and the go-ahead bucket (73-72) in the last minutes. Cunningham finished the game with 20 points, but Bayern despite leading by 17 points couldn’t get the job done.
The guests dominated the first half, getting a comfy 47-30 lead after the end of the second quarter. However, the hosts reacted with Wilbekin taking action and the whole team playing bone-breaking defense. They cut the lead to three points (61-58) and Bayern entered the last period with a five points advantage (63-58). The Germans scored just 11 points in the last quarter.
Game 2 will be played in Munich on the 23rd of March.
