Two-time All-EuroCup First Team selection Mardy Collins is determined to help Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar win the 7DAYS EuroCup crown after he was so close with Strasbourg in 2016. Collins stepped up for Lokomotiv in the semifinals against Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia with two big games and the second-best performance index rating of that stage, behind only Scottie Wilbekin of Darussafaka.
In his interview with EuroCup official site, Collins praises coach Sasa Obradovic for team success.
“We won 20 in a row, but if you came to practice, you wouldn’t know that. You would think that we lost 20 in a row!” Collins said. “He has a great ability to keep us focused, keep us engaged with the opponent and not take any nights off. I think that really helped us and is the main reason why we went 20-0 because we don’t take any games for granted.”
Lokomotiv will face Darussafaka in the final, the best of three series starts tomorrow at Krasnodar and Collins expects a tough, physical series.
“I think it is going to be a tough, physical series, especially because of the magnitude of it. Finals are kind of always like that. Players are a little nervous and they have to get those nerves out and that kind of causes guys to miss shots that they usually don’t miss. Plus these are two really good defensive teams, that is going to play another part. I think it is going to be a tough, competitive, defensive matchup that comes down to who makes the best plays towards the end of the game.”, said Collins.
