Limoges wants to continue playing in EuroCup

Limoges Sports Director Olivier Bourgain said that he would like for the team to continue playing in EuroCup due to the level of basketball displayed in the competition.

“The EuroCup,” Bourgain answered when asked where Limoges would play if there was a choice between EuroCup and Basketball Champions League, in an interview with LNB. “Also because historically, Limoges has always been close to EuroLeague. And the EuroLeague reached out to us this summer when it didn’t necessarily have sporting reasons to do. It did in regards to our excellent relations with Jordi Bertomeu and the EuroLeague and with the past of Limoges. When the EuroLeague picks you and gives you a wild card, you can’t forget it.”

There are two spots reserved for French clubs in next season’s EuroCup. ASVEL is expected to be one of the two teams so it remains to be seen if Limoges will clinch the other spot. EuroCup has announced that it will provide access to the Basketball Champions League finalists, and this includes another French club: AS Monaco.

“If we are offered to go back to EuroCup, I don’t see how it’s possible to refuse. And I claim that the level of EuroCup is higher than that of the Basketball Champions League. There are teams very close to the EuroLeague like Lokomotiv Kuban, Unics Kazan, Bayern Munich. It’s a very organized competition. The BCL remains an important competition, we saw that from the Final between Monaco and AEK,” Bourgain added.
