AS Monaco announced the hiring of Saso Filipovski

Saso Filipovski left Turkey and Banvit for Monaco, which is preparing for the upcoming season in the French ProA and also in the EuroCup.

With coach Zvezdan Mitrovic leaving for ASVEL, Saso Filipovski was confirmed today as the new coach of AS Monaco.

According to the EuroCup press release:

AS Monaco will make its 7DAYS EuroCup debut with Saso Filipovski at the helm after signing the coach to a two-year deal on Wednesday. Filipovski, 43, arrives from Banvit Bandirma, where he spent the last two seasons and won the Turkish Cup in 2017. He started his coaching career with Union Olimpija Ljubljana of his native Slovenia, first as an assistant from 1998 to 2003, and then as the team’s head coach from 2003 to 2005. As head coach, Filipovski won back-to-back Slovenian League titles in 2004 and 2005 as well as a Slovenia Cup crown in 2005. Filipovski went on to work for PGE Turow Zgorzelec, which he led to the EuroCup quarterfinals in 2008 and the Polish League finals in 2007 and 2008. He has also coached Lokomotiv Rostov na Donu of Russia, Virtus Rome of Italy and Stelmet Zielona Gora of Poland, the latter of which he led to back-to-back Polish League titles in 2015 and 2016. Filipovski also won a Polish Cup title with Zielona Gora in 2015 and worked briefly as CSKA Moscow‘s assistant coach.

“I decided to come to Monaco because of the challenge, it is a great pleasure for me to be part of the Monaco project. Monaco is fighting for titles and for me, it is a great opportunity to coach in the French league,” Filipovski said. “I have a lot of respect for French basketball. I am happy to join Monaco, be part of its story and fight for high goals.”
