Brandon Jennings says he may retire in Europe

Brandon Jennings began his professional career in Europe ten years ago, and he believes that this may well be the place where he’ll retire.

“I started my career in Europe. I know how to play European basketball and this is where I may end my career,” Jennings said in an interview to Serbian website MVP Portal.

While Jennings, who will play with Russian EuroCup and VTB League contender Zenit St. Petersburg in 2018-2019, will aim for an NBA return next summer, he’s perfectly fine if he stays in Europe until the day he decides to hang his shoes.

“I hope I will,” Jennings said when asked he will get back to the NBA. “But If I don’t return, I will finish my career in Europe and I will be satisfied with it.”

Back in 2008, Jennings opted to sign with a EuroLeague club Lottomatica Roma in Italy directly after high school. It was an unprecedented decision that made headlines around the basketball world since he was the first American player heading overseas to begin a professional career, rather than joining college.

“Returning to Europe is better for me because I know how to play here,” Jennings said.

With Zenit, Jennings will compete in both EuroCup and VTB League. The Russian team can play in EuroLeague in 2019-2020 in case they win either competition.
