Unics Kazan needed to defeat Andorra with more than six points in order to clinch top spot in Group H of the EuroCup Top 16. And the Russian team did much more than that since they downed their opponents 72 – 53 thanks to a dominant 23 – 10 fourth period.
Raymar Morgan scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds, Pierria Henry finished with 14 points and five assists while Jamar Smith scored 12 and Errick McCollum posted 11 points plus five boards for Unics. Moussa Diagne (12 points, eight rebounds) and Andrew Albicy (10 points, six assists) stood out for Andorra.
This result creates a Russian showdown in the best-of-three quarterfinals between Unics and Lokomotiv Kuban, with the first owning homecourt advantage. Andorra will face French side ASVEL Villeurbanne that finished first in Group F.
In a match between the two eliminated Group H teams, Zenit St. Petersburg beat Cedevita 79 – 75 on the road behind 17 points and nine rebounds by Jalen Reynolds.
