The president of Promitheas, Vangelis Liolios, talked to Eurohoops about his decision to move his team from the Basketball Champions League to 7DAYS EuroCup. It was expected and confirmed via press release on Friday.

“Last year we had the opportunity to compete in the Basketball Champions League. It was an unprecedented experience. During our journey, we amassed playing experience and encountered European clubs with previous experiences in such tournaments and impressive athletic culture. Meanwhile, our team managed to advance to the Playoffs Finals for the first time, go against Panathinaikos OPAP and finish second in the Basket League. Promitheas hosted Game 2 in a Tofalos packed by fans from Peloponnese and Western Greece. We all enjoyed a great celebration for Greek standards”.

“We often say, our dreams don’t have a ceiling. With this in mind, we decided to join EuroCup, a tournament with several great European teams and stability, a feature of our team as well. Our goal is to have a decent run and why not, looking ahead, compete with the top European clubs. I would like to point out that we are not happy with the current situation in Europe. We hope that European basketball’s future will be within a single and undivided structure” Liolios said.
