Jaka Blazic left Barcelona to be the marquee name of the newly created Cedevita Olimpija. Blazic is expected to be the leader of the team in its ABA Liga and 7DAYS EuroCup campaign.
Per ABA Liga: Edo Murić, Martin Krampelj, Mirko Mulalić, and Saša Zagorac, who all joined Cedevita Olimpija in this summer, will be joined by another domestic player. After six years, Jaka Blažič will once again wear the jersey of the Dragons, after spending this past season in Barcelona. The 29 years-old signed a two-year deal.
Blažič started his professional path in Triglav in 2007, and after two years, he moved to Slovan. He also stayed in Kodeljevo for two seasons and moved to Stožice to then Union Olimpija in 2011. He became a stable player of the Dragon’s play in the 2012/13 season, when he averaged 12.4 PPG, 4.0 RPG and 1.9 APG, and with his style of play, he caught the eyes of many basketball experts in the wider region, and moved to Crvena zvezda mts before the start of the 2013/14 season. In 2015, he won the ABA League and the title of the Serbian national champion.
He played for two seasons in Belgrade, and after that, he moved to Baskonia. He started the 2017/18 season with Andorra, and before that start of the 2018/19 season, he moved to Barcelona.
Blažič has been a member of the Slovenian national team since 2012 when he joined the training camp for EuroBasket 2013, and later on, he also played in this competition. He also wore Slovenian jersey in 2014 in Spain, and in 2015 in EuroBasket, which took place in Croatia, Germany, Latvia, and France. He also played in the 2017 EuroBasket Qualifiers in 2016, and in 2017, he was a member of the team, that won the title of the Europan Champions. In 2017, he averaged 6.3 PPG, 2.7 RPG and 0.7 APG in 13.6 MPG at the EuroBasket.
Last season, which he spent in Catalonia, Blažič played in 27 games of the Spanish domestic league, and in 25 games in EuroLeague. He averaged 13.2 MPG, 5.2 PPG, 2.3 RPG and 0.6 APG in the European competition, and 13.3 MPG, 5.6 PPG, 2.4 RPG and 0.8 APG in Endesa League.
Jaka has a good feeling regarding his comeback to Stožice: “It feels good to be here again. I am happy to be back in Ljubljana after six seasons. I hope that the feeling would be even better at the end of the season. It is easy to sign a contract, but even more important is to show the real thing on the court.”
