Rade Zagorac put up an impressive performance leading Partizan NIS to the win over Tofas in the second round of the new 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season. His career-high 26 points coupled with another personal-high, 35 PIR, enough for the Round 2 MVP honors.
Per EuroCup: “With Partizan NIS Belgrade trailing by double figures in front of a big home crowd, Rade Zagorac stepped up to lead his team to a 93-80 win over Tofas Bursa — and to also earn his first MVP of the Round honor in the 7DAYS EuroCup. Partizan’s 24-year old forward, making his first appearance of the season, scored a career-high 26 points, making 4 of 5 two-point shots, 4 of 7 three-pointers and all 6 of his free throws. He also had 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals while drawing 6 fouls for a personal-high performance index rating of 35, the highest of Round 2. That was also the second-highest PIR ever by a Partizan player in a EuroCup game and helped the Serbian powerhouse improve to a 2-0 in Group B. Justin Cobbs of Buducnost VOLI Podgorica had this round’s second-highest PIR, 32, after collecting 19 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals in a home loss against Dolomiti Energia Trento. Next among Round 2’s best performers was Jamar Smith of UNICS Kazan, whose career-best PIR of 29 led a come-from-behind win over Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana. Smith netted 21 points and dished 6 assists with 2 steals. Zach Auguste of Galatasaray Doga Sigorta Istanbul collected 18 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks for a PIR of 26 in a win over EWE Baskets Oldenburg. He was matched by Derek Willis of ratiopharm Ulm, whose 22 points and 3 rebounds for a PIR 26 couldn’t avoid a loss at MoraBanc Andorra.
Individual highs: Alan Williams, Lokomotiv, 13 rebounds
Zagorac was Round 2’s top scorer with 26 points. Alan Williams of Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar pulled down 13 rebounds to lead all players this round, while Trento’s Aaron Craft dished 9 assists, more than any player. Three players had 4 steals this round: the Maccabi Rishon LeZion duo of Adam Ariel and Alex Hamilton, plus Trento’s Rashard Kelly. Four players had 3 blocked shots this week: Rishon’s Hamilton, Alex Tyus of UNICS, Hassan Martin of Buducnost and Johnathan Hamilton of Darussafaka Tekfen Istanbul.”
