UNICS Kazan confirmed via social media on Monday that Vangelis Mantzaris left the Russian team to join Promitheas. The Greek point guard’s contract was terminated by mutual agreement.
Reports on Mantzaris returning to his home country surfaced recently. His new team will formalize his addition to Makis Giatras’ squad via press release on Tuesday.
The 2012 and 2013 EuroLeague champion concluded his lenghty tenure with Olympiacos to join UNICS last July. Since averaged 3.9 points, 2.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds per 7DAYS EuroCup appearance, also 4.4 points, 2.4 dimes and 1.4 boards per VTB United League contest.
Mantzaris will further his EuroCup campaign with Promitheas that will take on EWE Baskets Oldenburg, Germani Leonessa Brescia and Umana Reyer Venezia in the Top 16 stage. Domestically, his new side carries a 10-3 W-L record in Basket League.
