Robert Archibald died at the age of 39 on Friday. He was the only Scottish player to make it to the NBA. Spent another chunk of his playing years in Europe, mainly in Spain.
Archibald grew up in Scotland and moved to USA for high school. Afterwards was part of a successful Illinois squad in the NCAA.
The Memphis Grizzlies picked him 32nd in the 2002 NBA draft. He went on to play for the Grizzlies, Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors. As for his European path, aside Spain competed in Ukraine and Italy.
With Scavolini Pesaro, DKV Joventut and Unicaja took part in 78 EuroLeague matches averaging 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per appearance. Represented Great Britain in the 2012 Olympic Games as well.
Several of his former teams confirmed his passing expressing their condolences to his family. However, no further details on the circumstances of his death are yet known.
