A defensive foul call on Nigel Hayes in the game between Zalgiris Kaunas and Anadolu Efes on Thursday resulted in EuroLeague releasing a statement, clarifying it was a wrong call.
Per EuroLeague:
Following speculation surrounding a defensive foul during the fourth quarter of the Anadolu Efes Istanbul-Zalgiris Kaunas game played on February 6 2020, Euroleague Basketball’s findings are:
In the fourth quarter with 3:08 left on the game clock, Chris Singleton of Anadolu Efes Istanbul caught a live ball on the playing court. He dribbled towards the basket and with 3:05 left on the game clock attempted a two-point field goal. Whilst in the act of shooting Chris Singleton made illegal contact with Nigel Hayes of Zalgiris Kaunas, as Nigel Hayes had previously established a legal guarding position. The contact occurred prior to Chris Singleton releasing the ball for the two-point field goal attempt. The defensive foul call on Nigel Hayes was an incorrect call, which should have been called an offensive foul on Chris Singleton resulting in the cancellation of the two-point field goal and possession for Zalgiris Kaunas.
