EuroLeague imposed sanctions on Olympiacos

Olympiacos Piraeus was fined with a total sum of 38.000 euros for “conduct of fans committing acts showing lack of respect” plus “insufficient preventive measures taken to avoid disturbances” during Tuesday’s (3/3) game vs. Panathinaikos.

The day after the game, Panathinaikos issued a statement, accusing Olympiacos of creating “a climate of terrorism” during the match. The club sent official letters of protest to several authorities, including the Greek Deputy Minister of Sports and the Minister of Citizen Protection.

Per EuroLeague:

Euroleague Basketball has announced disciplinary sanctions pertaining to incidents that occurred in Round 27 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague regular season. The sanctions are based on infractions of the competition bylaws that all teams are aware of and obliged to fulfill.

  • OLYMPIACOS PIRAEUS has been sanctioned with fines amounting to a total €38,000 for the lighting of fireworks, the use of laser pointers, the conduct of fans committing acts showing lack of respect, and the insufficient preventive measures taken to avoid disturbances on occasion of its home game against PANATHINAIKOS OPAP ATHENS in accordance to Articles 29.2.e), f), g) and j) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code.
