Khimki Moscow Region granted the request of its American imports to return home, the Russian club announced on Tuesday.
As noted, the players were permitted to leave Russia and return to the USA, according to the recent statement released by the U.S. State Department. General manager, Pavel Astakhov previously said that his team can’t ban a USA citizen from returning to his country.
Considering the health of the players, coaches, and their families, top priority, Khimki freed its American players from team obligations while building a training scheduled based on the dates announced by Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and the VTB United League for resuming their 2019-20 seasons.
The press release adds that the departing American players will immediately return to Russia when the team’s 2019-20 campaign resumes.
At the time of the hiatus, in response to the coronavirus pandemic, Khimki was seventh in EuroLeague sporting a 13-15 W-L tally and first in VTB with an 18-1 run.
