LDLC ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne president and majority owner, Tony Parker is confined with his family in San Antonio, due to the coronavirus pandemic. L’ Equipe reached out to the retired player for his take on the current status of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and Jeep Elite Pro A.

“The smartest solution is to cancel the season without a champion nor teams relegated, so we can prepare as soon as possible for the next season,” noted Parker on the French League, “Everyone will suffer big losses.”

“I believe we must stop giving false hope,” he added, “We are not going to resume the season. We are awaiting the decision from LNB and FFBB.”

His team was tied for first place in the French League thanks to a 21-4 record when the decision to temporarily suspend the 2019-20 season was made. In EuroLeague was 10-18, good enough for 15th place.

“It will be even more complicated in EuroLeague because it depends on more European countries with different health and safety rules,” he mentioned regarding Europe’s premier club competition that is set to extend its hiatus beyond April 11.

“If the Olympic Games are postponed, the LNB season should be canceled,” Parker further pointed out, “There’s nothing bigger than the Olympics. I can’t see why we should play basketball when the biggest sporting events are canceled or postponed.”
