Baskonia announced that the club (Alaved-Baskonia Group) has been “forced to apply a Temporary Regulation File Employment (ERTE) due to force majeure”, in order to “minimize the economic impact of the crisis” after the suspension of all sports action amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The implementation of ERTE means that all workers of the Alaves-Baskonia organization will face salary cuts. The measure will affect both players of Baskonia and soccer team Deportivo Alaves. It will be terminated once sports activities in Spain are allowed again.

Baskonia is the second Spanish EuroLeague club to take this measure after Barcelona. In Spain, the coronavirus has claimed 5,138 lives while there have been 65.719 confirmed cases, as of Saturday (28/3) morning.
