FC Barcelona issued a statement on Monday thanking the players for accepting proposed salary reductions noting that most of the basketball players are among those already in agreement. The Spanish outlet previously applied to reduce wages due to the suspension of sports activities, in response to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
“The FC Barcelona Board of Directors has reached an agreement with the members of the staff of all professional teams and most members of the basketball team to reduce wages during the alert status due to the coronavirus pandemic.
For the soccer team, the reduction will be greater than the 70% initially proposed by the club. This additional contribution plus the contribution that the club will make guarantees the salaries of all non-sports personnel.
The club wants to thank the professional athletes for such a response in this health emergency situation.”
