Deni Avdija joined the Israel Defense Forces, IDF, his team Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv informed on Wednesday. The 19-year-old guard arrived this morning accompanied by his parents and agent.

The NBA draft prospect was scheduled to enlist last summer, but his recruitment was postponed with him participating and winning the 2019 FIBA U-20 European Championship and afterward preparing and competing in the 2019-20 season at the club level.

“I am pleased and proud to be drafted into the IDF as expected by every citizen of my age,” said Avdija after going through the usual enrolling process.

No Maccabi games are scheduled for the immediate future with both the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and Israeli Super League currently suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.
