While various sports organizations weigh which decision to make and whether to cancel the season try to find a way to finish it later this year, Barcelona coach Svetislav Pesic is of a mindset that it should be resumed, no matter the date.
“Depending on what the Spanish government says, we will make some decisions or others at the time of returning to training. We have three pavilions, the Palau and two in the sports city, with separate gyms. We will see. We are looking at various training options. My goal and that of the club is to finish this season, but it is not up to us,” he told EFE, according to Mundo Deportivo.
He noted that those in charge of the competitions will have to think ‘outside the box’ in order to make the best decisions: “FIBA, Euroleague and the National Leagues must be pragmatic and have certain creativity to know not only how we end this season, but how we’ll start, play and finish the following one. We cannot forget that we are not the NBA, where there is only one single competition. Here we play a minimum of two (Euroleague and National League) and we can also play Pre-Olympic.”
And added that situations like this show why it’s important for all levels of basketball to be able to cooperate: “It is not easy to do and that is why collaboration between these three levels of the basketball world is important. I think playing next season with the current competition system will be very difficult. Now is the time to find solutions to know how we start and end next season, although I fully understand that the Euroleague and the ACB think about how to end this one.”
