Real Madrid star and Spanish national team captain Rudy Fernandez held a “Q&A” session with fans on social media, during which he talked about how he experiences the coronavirus situation, retirement, his plans to be in Tokyo Olympics plus some of the most memorable games of his career.

Here’s what Fernandez said on:

Home confinement:

“I’m doing well, I’m lucky to have space at home. I can continue doing my physical routine, which I think is important. I have a gym that is well equipped so I can keep fit. But, on the other hand, I’m running out of ways to entertain my son. I’ve missed being on the court, practicing and competing with my teammates.”

Juan Carlos Navarro or Pau Gasol:

“They are the two best players in Spanish basketball. It’s very difficult. Juan Carlos has been a benchmark for players like me who play in the same position. But I have to choose Pau because, for me and for many, he’s a benchmark player worldwide.”

Most intense game:

“Regarding a loss, I’d choose the Olympic Games in Beijing (2008). That final was incredible for me. The whole team played a great game. Regarding a win, the first Eurobasket (2009). We didn’t start well but end up being devastating. I remember we beat Serbia by almost 20 points.”

Retirement with Real Madrid:

“I’m 35 years old and I have just renewed for two seasons. I’d be 37 when the contract is over. I’m going to live these two years as if they are the last. I’ve done it in the last two seasons, you have to go year by year. I’m getting closer to that moment of retirement, but I feel good. I’m very comfortable with the team and my role. When I see what I can’t give my best, I’ll step back to make way for young players.”

Playing in the Olympic Games in Tokyo:

“Hopefully. I really wanted to play in the Olympics this summer. For me, it would be the fifth time [in the Olympics] something I’d never think of. The situation has made us have to wait, which is the normal thing. Basketball is our life but the most important thing is health. Hopefully, next season will go well and I’ll be physically good.
