Barcelona to reportedly choose EuroLeague over ACB if there’s a schedule conflict

With both the EuroLeague having a plan to finish the season and the Spanish ACB also presenting their own way to complete their championship, Spanish clubs on both leagues may be forced to choose in which tournament they will compete.

According to Marc Mundet of RAC1 Radio Station, if that happens, then Barcelona would play in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and skip the proposed tournament of the Spanish Liga Endesa.

EuroLeague yesterday presented the dates in which their tournament may be held (4-26 July) and also the ACB has announced that their season can’t be completed later than the 31st of July.

It has to be noted that the whole process of returning to action – if that can be permitted by state and health authorities due to the COVID-19 pandemic – includes also a possible two weeks quarantine and a three weeks preparation period.

The conflict not only for Barcelona but also for Real Madrid, Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz, and Valencia Basket is more than obvious and it may extend also to other cases. In Turkey, France, Germany, Italy, Israel, and in the ABA League, in theory, the local leagues still have – depending on the case – a certain degree of hope to finish their season. So far only Greece, Russia, and Lithuania have firmly announced that their domestic season is canceled and they also have representation in the EuroLeague.

Of course, if the local political and health authorities don’t permit sports events to resume during the summer, the whole debate would prove pointless.
