EuroLeague and ELPA (EuroLeague Players Association) established minimum obligations for the rest of the 2019-20 season which includes paying 80% of the salaries in case the season gets canceled.
However, not everybody is on board with that plan and Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos is one of them: “Expect the players to help? Good one. They ask for 80% of their contract and they have only worked for 65%. Let’s see who will have the last laugh,” he wrote on Instagram in response to a fan.
In case the season continues, the players would receive 85% of the salaries while currently, during the suspension, they are postponed. Once the final decision has been made, the money is supposed to be paid no later than 15 August 2020.
