Pavel Astakhov, general manager of Khimki Moscow Region, talked to R-Sport about the current situation within his team ahead of the 2019-20 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season possibly resuming.
“We all miss basketball,” he stressed, “If all sanitary and epidemiological standards are respected in the place chosen by Euroleague, we would want to finish the season.”
Euroleague Basketball is considering resuming action with a decision on the 2019-20 season expected on May 24. However, Khimki players are still confined following health guidelines.
“We are in constant contact with EuroLeague. EuroLeague follows developments within each club,” noted Astakhov, “We have all the players on self-isolation. Whoever can, trains at home.”
The Russian club’s imports have returned to their countries. Khimki plans to have a full roster if EuroLeague returns, but remains unsure regarding foreign members of the squad.
“If the season resumes, all the players will be back,” said Astakhov, “How this will happen remains unclear because foreigners entering Russia is suspended indefinitely.”
“Concluding the season can be difficult. Nobody can predict any outcome. The entire situation is very complicated,” he added, “American players will have difficulties leaving the USA.”
