Real Madrid forward Trey Thompkins was the first guest of the GTM Family Productions’ “Hoop Tales” series, hosted by Kyle Hines, Tyler Hines and Mike Martin. After recovering from coronavirus, Thompkins is currently waiting to see whether EuroLeague and the Spanish ACB League will restart.
He doesn’t believe that any resumption is likely to happen.
“As far as the team goes, and basketball. I personally don’t see it happening,” Thompkins said after being asked by Hines about his opinion on the competitions continuing. “From a personal standpoint. Because it’s impossible to ensure everybody’s safety. No matter where you go, no matter what you do, you got to test. If they are talking about isolating us in one place, that means you got to test the people cooking the food, people working in the hotel every day. The process… is way too much going on for them to be considering doing this. It seems crazy to me.”
“I feel the same way. Basketball and all that should be secondary right now. It shouldn’t even be in the conversation. This is a global pandemic,” Hines replied.
“How are we talking about playing basketball and kids can’t even go outside? They can’t go to school,” Thompkins then said. “What’s the meaning? What’s the priorities here? What’s really going on?
Thompkins, a 2018 EuroLeague champion with Real, also talked about his beginning in the top-tier European competition, dealing with injuries and personal losses, plus the rising of Luka Doncic.
