FC Barcelona is considering Nick Calathes as a potential replacement for recently departing, Malcolm Delaney, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Panathinaikos OPAP captain is on the verge of becoming a free agent, despite having a contract for the next season. He is expected to leave the Greek club, as Eurohoops previously reported.
The latest report regarding his future additionally notes that Barca will not be able to match his ongoing contract with the Greens, due to budget restrictions coming off the coronavirus pandemic.
The EuroLeague market remains slow and this summer is expected to be very peculiar. However, given Calathes more than established value as a superstar of Europe’s premier club competition, the growing list of teams interested features Zenit St. Petersburg, CSKA Moscow, Real Madrid, Anadolu Efes, and Olympiacos.
Apart from his two NBA seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, the Greek point guard spent the bigger part of his European career with Panathinaikos. Lokomotiv Kuban in 2012-13 marked his only other European stop.
